The Tragic and Comic Dramas of My Poetic and Fiction-Like Freakin' Life

Last year, Rhyan and I got engaged. Since then, we have been on a journey and adventure to better ourselves together in preparation for our wedding.

We joined @the.5amcrew to be more consistent with hiking and to celebrate the one hobby that brought us together in the first place.

This year, we had an opportunity to join 43 others in The 5 a.m. Crew in summiting Mt. Whitney. This was my 2nd summit and Rhyan's 1st.

This was an especially unique experience for me to help me realize that I no longer have to be such the solo, independent hiker that I used to be. I now have a strong, reliable man to support me when I need it, and it's okay for me to not always be in control and to accept help.

Also, this was my first ever San Gorgonio sunrise summit 🩷

This particular hike via the South Fork trail was a bit challenging for me since I was still recovering from a medley of illnesses I contracted in July. At times, I thought I wasn't gonna make it, but I summited just fine thanks to the support of my 5 AM Crew hiking buddies and Rhyan carrying my backpack the last 2 miles to the peak 😅

I’m so proud of the hiker—and person—he’s become.

I fell in love with hiking during the time I needed it most, and seeing him embrace it with his own intensity has been something special.

Well . . . This is a first. The second hike for my #sixpacksofpeakschallenge this year is the highest peak in SoCal, San Gorgonio (11,503 ft elevation)!

I generally do the challenge in order (lowest to highest elevation) but Rhyan's on a peak-bagging streak and wanted to do San Gorgonio two Fridays in a row 🤣 for his second try he wanted to do South Fork and since I haven't done that before (I'm a Vivian Creek girly), it was a welcome experience 😁

What I learned from this hike is I'm not a very confident snow hiker 🤣 I like more predictable terrain 😅 but Rhyan, who has more experience snowboarding, was thoroughly enjoying it 😁
